A Week for Climate and the Future: Munich Climate Week Officially Kicked Off
100 guests at opening ceremony in Nymphenburg Palace – more than 400 events over the next seven days

Munich, 19 October 2026 – Munich Climate Week 2026 officially opened on Monday. At the opening ceremony in Nymphenburg Palace, Munich’s Lord Mayor Dominik Krause highlighted its potential: “Countless people and institutions in Munich have long been working towards a sustainable future, often without knowing about each other. Munich Climate Week brings them together and shows just how much momentum there is in this city,” said Krause, who is also the patron of Munich Climate Week.
100 representatives from politics, business, research and civil society attended the opening ceremony. Guests included climate activist Luisa Neubauer, Allianz board member Günther Thallinger and actress Maria Furtwängler. “When people talk about climate pioneers, about cities leading the way, Germany hasn’t been part of that conversation internationally so far. I’m delighted that Munich Climate Week now sends a signal from Munich that this city is part of the transformation,” said Luisa Neubauer.
The Munich Climate Week programme is deliberately broad, ranging from film screenings and repair cafés to expert panels and climate technology showcases. The events are already proving very popular, with more than 12,000 registrations to date.
“We are incredibly happy and proud that it’s finally starting,” says Mariana Pedraza-Copete, co-founder and board member of Munich Climate Week. “We want to recognise what Munich is already achieving, inspire each and every one of us to do even more, and make Munich fit for the future through collective action,” Pedraza-Copete continued. The commitment of more than 100 volunteers alone, who organised Climate Week within just a few months, shows what networks and engagement can achieve.
Over the course of the week, more than 400 events across the Bavarian capital will provide answers to pressing questions on global warming and the climate crisis. Climate Week aims to bring together experts and interested people from all sectors to network, exchange ideas and advance climate solutions. Most events are free to attend.
