On Saturday, 24 October, the AI for Nature Hackathon closes Munich Climate Week launching real nature data into action.

Here's the state of the art in nature monitoring: reserve managers in South Africa count animals by hand, from helicopters. Corporate sustainability teams report on nature in adjectives. Meanwhile satellites, acoustic sensors and camera traps produce loads of ecological data we are not using. We'd like to fix a small piece of that.

The data

• acoustic sensor and microclimate data from Hula Earth's projects across Europe, plus one hyperlocal Munich dataset
• or satellite imagery, drone footage and camera-trap images from AMES Foundation's conservation projects across roughly 100,000 hectares in South Africa

The tracks

• Africa: plan and measure ecosystem recovery with data
• Europe: turn messy ecological data into a nature score

The day

• 10:00–20:00 at the Hula Earth office
• Short intros from AMES and Hula Earth, the challenge briefing, building through the day with mentors on site, pitches to the jury in the evening and dinner. Lunch, dinner, drinks and snacks are covered, as always.

The registration

• Registration closes on Wednesday, 21 October. Places are limited and confirmed on a rolling basis, so register early.

Developers, ML and data people, designers, business builders. No ecology background required! Register as a team or by yourself.
